Your Placenta

Know Your Placenta.

The Placenta is an endocrine organ sustaining life for your baby in utero.  It produces growth factors and stem cells, steroids and proteins to help a baby grow and secretes a multitude of hormones such as estrogen and progesterone to keep the baby developing.  A placenta also provides the baby with oxygenated blood and nutrients and exchanges gases, toxins and waste so the baby is always well nourished, oxygenated and clean.

The placenta is the baby's first source of immunity and protection from infection and is covered in an antibacterial coating.

The placenta is also a beautiful cushion adding physical protection.

The placenta is crammed packed with nutrients such as:

Stem Cells and Growth Factors.

Iron – essential for oxygen absorption in the cells.

Vitamins B6 – aids in the making of antibodies.

Vitamin E – for healing damaged skin cells.

Oxytocin hormone – essential for facilitating birth and breastfeeding.

Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) – responsible for reducing stress levels.

Cytokines – Fibroblasts that trigger cell metabolism healing and replacing damaged cells and tissue.

Amazingly your placenta keeps your blood and your babies blood completely separate with it's unique network of lobes, veins arteries and membranes.  There is a maternal side that attaches to the wall of your uterus and a fetal side which is the side shown in my Placenta photography as this to me is the most beautiful side and I can't wait to see how it looks on camera.  Did you know that your placenta has the exact same DNA as your baby?  In some cultures it's thought as your child's spiritual twin and guardian.

The Placenta is known as the 'tree of life' and all beautiful trees need solid roots in order to flourish and grow. The need to restore and maintain an individual's balance after birth and beyond is of paramount importance for the body and mind.

Placenta remedies has been reported to have help with a number of factors from boosting milk supply, shortened bleeding time post birth, and a reduced symptoms of postpartum "baby blues" or PN depression.

Balance & Root doesn't promise the earth however, we understand everyone is different to responding to the healing properties as nobody is the same.  Even if you know someone who has gained tonnes of energy and is raving about it to you it doesn't necessarily mean you may experience the same.  You may have an entirely different response such as a change in milk supply.  Whatever the case, you have nothing to loose by giving it a go and keeping an open mind.

My mission is to boost and up-lift the physical and mental health of folks on their postnatal journey and this philosophy has always been at the centre of everything I do, whether teaching dance and exercise in my surrounding communities or healing with Reiki therapy.  Whatever I love I share.
